Valentine's Day Gift Guide 1: Marsala Wins

Marsala is Pantone's color of the year for 2015 - they describe the color as "a naturally robust and earthy wine red" and go on to say that the color marsala "enriches our minds, bodies, and spirits."   I personally love marsala's deep red to reddish brown hues, with scrumptious names like cinnamon, garnet, oxblood, burgundy, bordeaux, cranberry, maroon, and brick, and they're absolutely perfect colors for Valentine's Day gift-giving.

Flowers and candy have their place in the Valentine's Day giftverse, but I always like to think outside the box, so I searched through some of my favorite etsy shops - TJBSGDI, am I right? - for some sweet gift ideas that feature these romantic shades but won't wither and die after a week or make anybody stress about calories or carbs.

Take, for example, these two absolutely amazing Victorian style domed vintage wooden bird cages  ... or an antique cranberry glass rose bowl vase flashed with gold... both available at Nyssa Ink.

Or this fabulous 1970s cranberry velvet maxi dress, with cream colored lace that's to die for, from Kris's Vintage Clothing ...

Etienne Aigner is responsible for my personal love affair with this color, which began in the mid 1980s, when I was a professional working woman in suits and heels, bored with only brown, black or navy as a choice for neutrals.  Aigner quickly became my go-to brand for timelessly stylish and classic leather bags, shoes, belts, and small leather accessories.  There's a gorgeous 1960s Aigner purse at Reco-Wind, where you really ought to check out the scarves, too, because:  wow!

Fun fact:  Etienne Aigner originally called his trademark burgundy color "Antic Red."

We've got one Aigner bag listed at the moment - the last of three we bought from a local estate a few months ago.  The leather is so soft!

This adorable designer secretary blouse with matching scarf, or belt, or bow, from Rescuing Decades Past (pssssst ... it's only $10!) would make a lovely Valentine's Day gift.

As would this mouth-watering 1970s cognac brown leather coat jacket from Anthem & Object ...

... or this Wallace China restaurant ware set of mid century modern cups and saucers that feature a fab reddish brown art deco inspired design on an ivory background - these would be very romantic given with a box of your sweetheart's favorite tea or a bag of coffee beans.  These can be found at Grouchy Parrot, where they have another similar set if you just can't make do with one.
Don't forget that we have some lovely vintage garnet estate jewelry  in our Style shop that'll show you marsala in every shade and hue imaginable - so give yourself a treat by checking it out even if you've already got your bases covered for Valentine's Day.

Bright blessings,
CJ & Kay
